Biography

Lillian Carson is the Vice President of Ambulatory Development and Operations for the Partnership and Business Development team at Virtua. She has over 30 years’ experience in health care, in both clinical and management operations and strategic development. In her current role, she is responsible for development and oversight of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers partnered with physicians and Virtua throughout the state of New Jersey, as well as recent additions in Pennsylvania and Delaware, to ensure continuity of care, and consistency and compliance with all applicable policies, procedures and regulations and operations.  Lillian Serves on several ASC boards, and key leadership positions, and Clinical Operations committees for the ASCs and provides administrative direction for clinical practice, quality metrics, credentialing, governing body Bylaws and regulatory guidelines, and state law requirements and operations of the centers.  Previously, she served as Virtua’s AVP for Surgical services. During that time she has worked to standardize surgical practice to ensure quality and safety, assisted with development of surgical product review, worked to improve access to surgical services and implemented enhancements to our IT and business intelligence systems. She has developed strong working relationships with our surgeons and assisted with development of meaningful comparative acute and ambulatory care surgical dashboard.

Prior to joining Virtua, Lillian worked at Aria Health/Jefferson Health as Vice President of Procedural services, which included all imaging, Surgical Services, Cardiac Center, PT,OT and all ambulatory services. She also spent significant time at CHOP and Jefferson in both surgical services and patient care areas in various leadership roles.

Lillian is an RN and has a BSN from Thomas Jefferson University and MSN from UOP and a MBA from Eastern University. She has her certification in perioperative nursing and first assistant, and is the director at large for the South Jersey Chapter for the American College of Health Care Executives in which she is a Board member on the Healthcare Leaders Network for Delaware Valley regional chapter. Lillian is a member of the New Jersey Association for Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and serves on several committees, as well as the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association. She is also a surveyor for both the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities and CMS as well as investigations. Lillian lives in Philadelphia and has three children.
